Stave Churches I (Heddal)

on my journeys through Norway and Sweden I've stumbled on many fascinating churches. Mainly I'm talking about stave churches, made out of wood and very old. Most of the stave churches can be found in Norway. A few outside but these are very rare and almost only  replica.

Stave church of Heddal Quite often the bell tower was not part of the church itself due to stability reasons. Some of them are very interesting to look at. From time to time I'll do a post with new pictures of stave churches. On my last journey I've been almost two months there in the north, so there's a big bunch of pictures still need to be processed.

Let's start with the one in Heddal. Coming from Sweden with a stopp not far from the border in Notodden this church is a good starting point. Just a few km from Notodden this was my first stave church seen in real. I was really impressed by the astonishing architecture. In the end there are many pictures resulting of my two visits there.

I should mention that things from modern civilization are removed from my stave church pictures.
